Unstructured work with unclear career path - Hedge Analyst bei Compass Analytics: Mitarbeiterbewertung

Pros

-Some exposure to MBS trading (which is how they lure people in describing the job as a "trading role", in reality it is mostly troubleshooting software errors and helping dumb clients reset their passwords all day) -Some people are smart but most just know a lot about the software and not much about anything else - You do not need any kind of degree to work at the company (not sure if it is a pro)

Kontras

- Literally anybody could do this job, it is so niche that you need to be at the company for years before having even a small idea of what is going on around you - Insufficient training: new hires are mostly left to fend for themselves for most of the time, then they are micromanaged if things go wrong - Clients are annoying, rude and at times do not even know what is going on in their own file. You are expected to solve things for them even if you have no clue either - Salaries are 25-30% below industry averages, so people leave as soon as they can (turnover is extremely high even at managerial level)

Pros

I can't speak for more experienced hires, but the salary potential at Compass is extremely strong for less experienced professionals. I started at Compass 3 years removed from college and was making nearly double my previous income after 1.5 years at the firm. In addition to learning a lot about the mortgage industry, I also developed quite a bit as a professional as you're really forced to own your work, both for the good and the bad. The sense of entitlement in the other reviews is beyond preposterous based on my experience. I would have stayed at Compass for at least a while longer if it were not for a dream opportunity that came about out of nowhere from prior networking I'd done.

Kontras

Because of the nature of the job being on a trading desk, expect to be in your seat from 8am-5pm every day, all day. There is a lot to learn, both in terms of industry knowledge and skills within the software. You can and will get left behind if you're not putting in the effort to learn and ask questions. The old saying that the squeaky wheel gets the grease is certainly true here.
