Pros
- Lower-level management is helpful, considerate, and hardworking. - Lower-level employees create a reasonably pleasant working environment. - Very accommodating for native Chinese speakers who do not speak English well - Good opportunities for advancement due to high turnover - Occasional free meals - Nice new building/recreational facilities Overall: The employees are capable and nice. Working here is educational and the day-to-day work is very hands-on and there is little to no administrative overhead or interference in workers' jobs.
Kontras
- Extremely low employee morale - Extremely low pay (40-50% of market value). With a bachelor's degree, you get paid at about the same rate as the average American janitor. - Strong Chinese culture may be a negative for those who don't speak Chinese - Cheap, penny-pinching business strategy which interferes with laboratory workflow (machinery breaking constantly, ordering materials is needlessly difficult) - Dirty, cramped facilities - You are under heavy pressure to work overtime everyday (with few exceptions), and often weekends. - Zero regard for employee safety/satisfaction - Upper-level management is abusive and unreceptive to criticism. - Upper-level management reeks of nepotism. - Management has the mentality that a problem must be immediately assigned someone to blame for it - Management can often be unprofessional (yelling, racism/sexism, cursing at employees) - No HR department (i.e. no employee protection) Overall: Everybody working here is either brand new or seriously searching for a new job so they can get out as fast as possible. Unless CS Bio goes through a huge change/overhaul in the near future, it will continue to be a toxic and unproductive place to work.
