Kontras
Poor management Zero work life balance Constant manufactured urgency Low compensation Round the clock on call Limited PTO and extremely restrictive rules and timelines for booking PTO including no more than one week at time UNIQUE TO CP: Even as a computer scientist at head office you must be trained to work on the rail yards and/or conduct trains, they will deploy you at any point you are needed. With only a few hours notice I was sent to work night shifts in the rail yard, outside in the middle of January for or a month straight. This type of occurrence is common. As of June 2022 people from head office are being sent out in 2 month rotations, where regardless of what you do (executives excluded) every 2 months you will be deployed. They usually don't know where until a day or two before and your return date will be decided after your deployment based on their labour needs. Deployment doesn't always work like this, but over the last 10 years CP has lost a lot of people and seen a huge increase in turnover due to a huge priority and culture shift. CP Rail is no longer the great employer your grandparents told you about.
