No longer a career. Selling parts used to be a commission based job and having expertise in not only parts but also dealing with local shops and independent mechanics would make you a well compensated sales person. Today they are looking for kids straight out of high school and old heads that are retired/injured. For ages 20-35 they try to offer an extra dollar an hour to make them a "manager". In reality, your just given a key to the store and are given more shifts to open/close. Over time you receive regular reviews from the store manager where they tell you that you've been doing a great job and are going to receive a $0.23/raise. Eventually they will start making promises like promotions and being given your own store to manage. Sounds good but they cant make everyone a manager and 90% of the staff doesn't want to be one. You'll meet coworkers that have been waiting on there own store for 5-10 years and the ones at 10 years of experience are the ones to watch. They will get offered a store and pass it up because its just not worth the stress with the amount of pay. A store manager from a different location tried to convince me it was a good ladder one day and then mentioning the hourly for store manager. The amount mentioned was LESS THAN $19/hour...salary. What a disgusting and embarrassing amount to pay someone managing a store for you.
