Pros

Despite Applied being a long distance from the loop, where most other cool software is created, it is a pretty amazing organization. It's the largest software provider in the Midwest and has a portfolio of products that represents most technologies being utilized these days. Amazing company success records, a really loyal customer base and a very genuine industry keep it cooking. The place is nearly 30 years old and has an incredible story. they have adopted agile, they have great senior leadership that makes good decisions and is changing the culture to be very relevant. I like working there and feel supported and like I have a lot of options, especially given their growth goals. Overall I would recommend this company - honest and growing and there are options here for some long term development.

Kontras

There used to be a very traditional, conservative culture there. Lots of people work IN the office still, even in the departments where most other software companies invite their employees work from home. Management should recognize that as a global software company, people can live anywhere and work from anywhere, I think they are recognizing this, and now they have a ton of offices too so not everyone is in one place. The industry they serve is even more conservative with technology and so it's not the edgiest place to work - but that also means you can hit it out the park without too much innovation - just enough. It's getting interesting with international needs.

Pros

The teammates that I worked with were generally really great. Decent opportunity for learning

Kontras

The benefits were not great, 3 year vesting to get a 401k match, insurance was sub par, time off was below average. In addition to this the management team is having a lot of turnover along with getting rid of people systematically (or what feels targeted). This is following some acquisitions that could have been great but because the teams are all operating in silos with what feels like no cohesive direction from the senior leadership. The products that are being sold are very old feeling/looking with no real changes on the horizon. Pair this with high level executive leadership changes that are pointing to a potential sale of the company which likely will come with more changes and loss of employment.
