It was a place to meet people from different countries who were educated and interesting. Middle management was responsive to the linguists, while trying to meet budget and production targets. There was a great deal of solidarity and a productive dynamic among those who actually did the work.

Senior management was unresponsive, uncommunicative and didn't take an interest in what was involved in creating and maintaining their product (translation content / memories) unless there was a complaint from the client, and then the axe would fall. Their preferred method of cost control seemed to be firing employees who had been there long enough to warrant a raise - as long as they could be easily replaced.
