Not interested in the consultant, but rather pulling their unscrupulous sales tactics in an effort to get more direct business contacts to they can attempt to sell their zero value add middle man nonsense. Their approach is simple, approach consultants with a job description, then ask said consultant for references. Once these are sent, that's that.
