Ich habe in Vollzeit bei Zeno Group gearbeitet (mehr als ein Jahr)

    Pros

They've been hired by great brands and companies - which lured me in from my previous agency - however, Zeno does not keep their clients for very long (and there's a reason for this.) To sum the company up in three words: Smoke in mirrors.

    Kontras

Leadership at the senior level is cowardly and extremely unprofessional. It was an ongoing theme (across the company) that SVPs, EVPs and even MDs ran around like chickens with their heads cut off, unable to lead their teams properly and professionally. I noticed this trickle down to the junior staff - hence why the company's unable to hold onto the majority of their clients.

I can't stress enough how backwards this company is run (note: HR was also an extreme disappointment). I would highly recommend avoiding working at, or hiring, this company. They have a long way to go before I'd consider recommending them to other PR professionals.

Do your career a favor and do not apply to, or join, Zeno.

    Rat an das Management

Focus on listening to and training your teams. There's a real problem with retaining talent and business across multiple Zeno offices and it's very clearly supported by high employee and client turnover, as well as inconsistent revenue across offices.

    Pros

Growth in a challenging market means something is going well. Great new client wins, awards and a cool culture. This is the place to be right now. Leadership has settled of late and the new look office, flexible working and creative first approach is fresh and inspiring.

    Kontras

Always a fast pace which doesn’t suit everyone.

    Rat an das Management

Great job in freshening things up.

    Pros

Some of the people were lovely. A lot of people were really motivated and knew their stuff. The list of clients is fantastic and the freebies in the office were great.

    Kontras

There were individuals whose behaviour was aggressive and inappropriate. Concerns had been raised before, yet had been hushed up and weren't communicated to the senior management team. When I flagged their behaviour, I was blamed for causing it and trying to stir up trouble.

The hours were very long. Every day was a 10 hour day and there were consecutive days where I worked until 12am. When I raised this to a senior member of the team, they responded by saying "Well if that's the way you prefer to work." Sadly it seemed like junior members of the team were always the ones with the heaviest workload, while more senior managers left on time.

This could have just been my experience of the particular team I was working with and the individuals within it, but I have worked in other agencies and this was REALLY BAD.

    Rat an das Management

Support your staff. Make sure they are happy and don't overwork them. Its not rocket science.

    Pros

    Free snacks in the kitchen.

    Kontras

Weak compensation, low-level accounts, cliquey colleagues, unfocused and poorly managed teams, absent leadership... this list could go on and on. Most of these flacks wouldn't be able to hold their own elsewhere.

    Rat an das Management

Seek independence from the "Mother Ship" or not -- you can't have it both ways.

    Pros

In theory, there’s a thing called freedom Friday, where people can leave at 3pm on the first Friday of the month. Emphasis on “in theory”

    Kontras

The team culture is virtually non-existent, except for the one day in a fortnight that you try to leave on time, when it exists to make you feel guilty for doing so. I never left before 6.30/7.00 on ‘Freedom Friday’. What does exist, is a culture of who can work the hardest, and who can generate the most unnecessary nonsense to add to our already stretched workloads.

10/11 hour days are the norm and 12/13 hour days are a semi regular occurrence too, so I was in a peculiar position of working harder than many of my friends in the city, but getting paid half as much.

The email culture was totally out of control; close to 400 a day was normal, and I was told by my manager that I should be reading every last one of them - coming back from a 5 day holiday made this impossible, but the attitude stood firm.

There is absolutely no culture. No banter. No music. Everyone is too heavily worked to do anything than stay fixated on their computer screens. The office looks like something akin to Wolf of Wall Street, it’s that sterile.

Finally, with hindsight, my time was so consumed by unnecessary nonsense work that I rarely did any actual PR work (press releases, comment etc.), instead it was full of writing reports and putting together presentations of how good we were and what a fantastic job we’d done for the client.

    Rat an das Management

Sorry for being so negative. From what I’ve heard, some of the best and brightest are leaving. People are thinking with their feet; you’d be wise to heed this and make some serious changes.

Ich habe in Vollzeit bei Zeno Group gearbeitet (Über 5 Jahre)

    Pros

    * Great arena for any young ambitious person to get exposed to many industries and companies early in their career.
    * Commitment to the company culture taken seriously.
    * Fun and smart colleagues that produce good work and enjoy it.
    * Clientele is impressive (and getting better).
    * Nice to have backing from Edelman with the agility of a mid-size agency.

    Kontras

    * Typical growing pains of any organization going through a period of rapid global growth.
    * Bit top heavy as more and more executives come over from Edelman.
    * General agency life.

    Rat an das Management

Prioritize the development and expansion of creative teams to grow (and catch up) with the other practices.
