Ich arbeite in Vollzeit bei Simon-Kucher & Partners (mehr als ein Jahr)

    Pros

    - People here are AWESOME! They are extremely smart, and at the same time very hardworking.

    - There are SO MANY great international opportunities here. Its international exposure is unparallel even when you compare SKP to all the big name consulting firms.

    - Great snack and drink selection in the SF office!

    Kontras

    - Depending on which partner/manager you work with, your life can be either heaven or hell. Some partner/managers highly respect team members' life, and would try their best to make sure their work-life balance, while some can be ver demanding and are expecting you to constantly work over time.

    - Sometimes the firm can be a bit "cheap" especially compared to most other top-tier consulting firms, as you can see in the reimbursement policy, training and travelling policy, and some other cost cutting measures.

    Rat an das Management

Even though cost containment is important to the business, maybe the firm can be more generous to its employees when it comes to training, travelling, compensation & benefits, etc.

„Horrible senior management - lack of vision and strategy”

Ich arbeite in Vollzeit bei Simon-Kucher & Partners (Über 5 Jahre)

    Pros

Quick personal growth and responsibility from day 1

    Kontras

    - No strategic vision for the growth of the company, which is quite ironic, once you think it is a "strategy & marketing" consulting firm
    - Focus only on internal revenue growth as an obsession
    - The only relevant KPI appears to be €/day of work, no matter the size of the project or the relevance of the client
    - Many partners, especially the older ones, have limited knowledge of the topics they sell
    - Excessive vertical-ism of decisions such as consulting offer / topics to cover
    - German-centric culture, everything has to be done as in Germany
    - German IT, slow and unable to support
    - Work/life balance is the same as other consulting companies, except in Germany, where they live a bit better. Don’t believe what is said on the company website
    - Lack of transparency: many internal issues are managed poorly / in an opaque way, when they are not altogether hidden, especially if they involve people (partners) bringing money to the company
    - Unknown brand outside the German-speaking market, leading to complex sales to new clients and hard marketability once you want out
    - Limited attention to relevant new trends (big data, AI, etc.)
    - Pricing pricing pricing, it seems that everything is pricing, while there are many more areas unexploited, but senior people are refusing to evolve and become really a strategy firm
    - Poor management of the employees, with small bonuses and a tendency to save as much money as possible instead of improving the quality of life of people actually delivering the projects
    - “Cult of the Partner”: many of them perceive themselves as gods. In fact, they are Mr. No One in the industry and among clients, but still, watch out for their ego when in the room with them
    - Strict divisional structure, with no exposure to different industries
    - Bias toward PhD candidates: as the founder was an academic, the company favors PhD with no work experience in the real world instead of MBA or people with more relevant work experience, which is good, if you are a university, less so if you are a consulting firm

    Rat an das Management

Get out there and take a look at what other consulting firms (the actual top ones) do, it is enough to improve the mess in your hands

    Pros

Highly motivating environment. Great projects and good teamspirit

    Kontras

Ich habe in Vollzeit bei Simon-Kucher & Partners gearbeitet

    Pros

Simon-Kucher is well known for pricing and especially in the life sciences industry. During my tenure, there was a great culture among the staff who often hung out together and were collaborative.

    Kontras

Over time there cracks in the organization began to form. One of my biggest concerns is that the partners are now completely removed from the organization. They rarely attend events and, if you would like to speak with them, it is very hard to get time with them. Partners own the company and each of them thinks they are the king which creates a lot of conflict and tension. This also means that much of what the partners say is not true any more. For example, they say it is a flat organization which is supportive of individual growth but the partners are not accessible and they have been running as "up or out" for the last three years. These two trends show a clear disconnect between speaking points and the actual practice. Given how far down they are on revenue, they will probably have another round of dismissals at the end of the year (2017).

    Rat an das Management

Your people are your most important asset, if you treat them poorly you're giving up on your future.

-Much less travel/better hours than most consulting firms

-laptops, powerpoint templates, methodology is all a little outdated

    Rat an das Management

Invest in your employees! Give them the tools and training to help them meet your expectations, and hire more women

Ich habe in Vollzeit bei Simon-Kucher & Partners gearbeitet (Weniger als ein Jahr)

    Pros

Hours: sometimes more (12-13h) but also normal (9-10h), very good because it is consulting, 50-60 per week
    Knowledge about pricing
    Lack of structure
    Quite good learning curve

    Kontras

Lack of structure - pros&cons - soft and nice to work in but sometimes annoying

Pay minimum 2 times more starting from the bottom of hierarchy and teach better senior consultants, managers and directors how to manage a project and also people
