    Pros

    Samsung’s SEA HQ has a tasty cafeteria that’s subsidized by the company with a plethora of healthy options that change daily. They offer a competitive benefits package.

    Was a bit disappointed with the culture. Prior to joining I envisioned that as a tech leader Samsung would have a collaborative culture filled with innovation but that doesn’t seem to be the case within the HR. Not many friendly faces and deeply hierarchical structure.

    My suggestions include forging stronger relationships within the HR functions by having get togethers and time to connect with each other cross functionally at least once per quarter. There are also many contractors causing an invisible divide although some contractors are greater assets than the permanent management.

    Company pay's employees high end of national avg Health Benefits were above average Plenty of issues to resolve for problem solvers

    In the last 3 years, the company has lost key leadership and tenured employees Departments are silo'd , very difficult to coordinate any company-wide innovations or projects; many times I worked on projects that were later rejected by HQ, undermining N.A. leadership. Culture has become pathetic corporate drive for the next promotion- don't rock the boat because your input is nothing.

    The 1st step in fixing a problem is to recognize there is one. The heart break is sadness of what I believed in and dedicated 12 years too, is now gone, but relieved to be away from toxic work place.

    Benefits Discounts Perks like free equipment.

    Schedules change too frequently. Black out periods for PTO are ridiculous. No time to spend with family due to HQ constant changes and ridiculous request. No job security. They can decide to delete your territory and never give you a warning. For a huge company..everything seems very disorganized.

    You know when something is wrong with the work culture when you have massive people quitting and their only complaint is "let me spend more time with family." When the field team expresses concerns to HQ about issues and complaints, the answer should never be "at least you have a job and you are not like the other guy who got let go. Count yourself lucky"

    You have a job until you can find another one.

    A few weeks ago, 20% of the field sales team was told to hop on a conference call the next day and to make sure they were in a private place by themselves. With seemingly no rhyme or reason, those who got on that call basically got a, "thank you for working for Samsung, you're being let go." Those of us left were confused, discouraged and many were just upset not to have been let go with severance with our peers.... Upper management paraded on with no explanation. Morale from that event still hasnt recovered. Obviously there is 0 trust in upper management. You work every Saturday, despite many current employees being told this would be a M-F job in their interview. You will also work Thanksgiving and Christmas eve- which for many prevents them from being able to see their families on the holidays. You wont sell anything or see any customers, by the way. Several stores will even be closed. But you will be away from your family thanks to Samsung. You will also work several Sundays. All of the next-level titles are being hired externally. There are FSMs who have been in this program for 6 years+ with a manager from who knows where with 0 years of experience. No room for growth here. This job has the words "sales" and "manager"... be prepared to do neither. You dont sell anything. You have a long list of stores that you have to visit and hope that their sales line up with your target. There is a minimum amount of time that you have to spend in each store, and sometimes they require special visits that are honestly embarassing and make 0 business sense. Ex) Spending 2 hours in a wal mart. Most of your time is spent standing around in a store, waiting for someone to talk to. A LOT of standing around. You dont manage anything. You are given a ridiculous list of tasks on a daily basis and fires to be put out. You are micromanaged and GPS tracked. At the end of the day, you arent even a person. You are a robot with a list of tasks to perform, with no voice and no brain. The money sounds good, but when you are being paid salary and working hours and hours of overtime a week, the money is a joke too. If a recruiter reaches out to you about this role, my advice is to run.

    Rat an das Management

    You are losing most of the field team. Not because of the 20% you cut, but because the remaining 80% are getting out of here as quickly as we can. Make positive changes in favor of work life balance and put your employees first, or you wont have a reliable team left. Which could actually be entertaining. I'd love to see some of you try to perform some of the tasks you assign.

    Honestly, nothing. Hardly even boosts the resume.

    Looking back at working for this company the more I realize what a sweatshop it was. From toxic coworkers which HR does nothing about, to workloads begging you to quit at any moment, to slow systems, to a lot of clueless managers, to everyone being generally miserable. This is the culmination of a "Korean" culture, between priding themselves on working excessively to valuing being at work more than having a life.... The "culture" is just working, not far from being a slave. Then to add on top is the toxic coworkers that HR does nothing about, nothing. If you never want to buy a Korean product ever again, work for a Korean company.
