Ich arbeite in Vollzeit bei DW Sports (Weniger als ein Jahr)

    Pros

The members are wonderful, really make you feel at home and appreciated when you come to work. Free gym membership. Relatively easy job.

    Kontras

Salary and progression opportunities are poor, as is staff retention. Often staff act in a number of capacities. Generally slow head office, difficult to get equipment repaired.

    Rat an das Management

Give staff a reason to stay in a low paid role, and help to promote some form of career development programme. Improve on management skills, as often very demotivating.

Ich habe in Vollzeit bei DW Sports gearbeitet (Weniger als ein Jahr)

    Pros

Good training from an operational point of view. Excellent and well managed facilities with good investment and a lot of senior management have come from internal progression. Do not often have to work a lot of extra hours. A lot of change going on with new senior management which looks like it will develop the company.

    Kontras

People management is poor - very little to no focus on club culture and making sure staff are happy. Sales approach very outdated. Basic salary average.

    Rat an das Management

Look after your staff - pay more, make sure they are happy and they will look after you! Continue to invest in clubs and facilities.

    Ridiculous sales targets
    no support from head office
No desicions made at club level
    High turnover

    Rat an das Management

Value your employees, Listen to them, trust their decisions and respect their choices. Stop playing the blame game! Staff leaving have written exit questionnaires so I suggest you rad them

Ich habe in Vollzeit bei DW Sports gearbeitet

    Pros

Free use of the gym, reasonable working hours

    Kontras

Management made it up as they went a long. No consistency, only wanted Yes men, minimum wage, expected to work overtime with out any extra pay. Not enough telephones or computers to complete work with. Different membership prices for different locations despite all being called DW Fitness.

    Rat an das Management

Give staff support, allow sales staff to floor walk the gym and talk to existing members. The better existing members are looked after the more likely they are to stay and refer friends and family to the facility.

    Pros

Free Gym membership after probationary period.
Flexible working hours that fit around study.
Good discounts on items (especially around sale times).

    Kontras

    Poor working environment at times.
    Quick turnover of staff.
No incentive to up-sell or reach targets for add-on products.

    Rat an das Management

If you want your staff to sell, make selling with their while. Sales targets need incentives. Expecting staff to perform above and beyond without receiving anything in return is futile.

    Pros

20% Discount on full price products. People in my store were on the whole down to earth and good to work with

    Kontras

Money savings. Not a great culture within the company. Looking to save money everywhere. Where the company came from dictates this though.

    Rat an das Management

if you pay peanuts you get monkeys a lot of the time. Good discount but the products need to be better. Specifically the clothes.

Ich arbeite in Vollzeit bei DW Sports

    Pros

You get free gym membership but whenever you use the gym you get hounded by members because something will have been broken for months but head office won't authorise its repair so there's nothing you can do.

You get discount in an over priced retail store that, when applied, still makes items more expensive than sports direct.

    Kontras

Long, long hours, ridiculous expectations from senior management, no help or support from area managers. They couldn't care less about the members of the clubs, they are only interested in getting more people through the door but don't realise that you won't get more people in without advertising. Their own arrogance makes them believe that people will automatically join based on the equipment provided, not realising that it is also about the atmosphere in the club. When talking about getting new sales I would often be told that people don't need to try the club before they sign up "why do they need a trial? What do they need to know, that the pool's wet and you run on a treadmill! Just get them signed up!"

They manage their employees with fear, and nothing will ever be the companies fault. They use their employees as scape goats and their solution is to sack the current workforce and employ more victims.

Working for this company will drain the life from you, cause you stress and affect your health. This is not an exaggeration, trust me I've been through it for nearly 2 years. They don't care about the people who work for them, they don't care about the people who join their fitness clubs. Watch out fitness first, they'll do exactly the same to you.

    Rat an das Management

You are telling employees that the culture of the company is changing but it will never change with your current head of leisure. He manages on a whim, and has such an aggressive approach that feeds down into the area management team. Half of them don't have a clue what they are doing, they just follow orders and ask for more sales, more sales, more sales, but when you ask them for support they ignore you. Literally, unanswered emails, calls not returned. Trust your employees and give them some autonomy, you say they should run a club like it's their own business but then don't give any of the tools to be able to do this. Your culture is poisonous, start by looking after your employees and actually caring about your members, then maybe you might get somewhere.
