Ich habe in Vollzeit bei Clinton Health Access Initiative gearbeitet (Über 3 Jahre)

    Pros

Compelling mission; Great flexibility for working remotely; Senior management has really improved since the changes in 2017; Financial outlook for 2018 onwards is very bright; I hope to return after completing a Masters Degree in 2 years.

    Kontras

Workaholics all around you; it's sometimes hard to focus on work-life balance

    Rat an das Management

A better example about work-life balance should be set by senior leaders.

Ich habe in Vollzeit bei Clinton Health Access Initiative gearbeitet

    Pros

Some of the smartest and hardest working colleagues I've ever had are from CHAI. The energy to challenge the status quo and advocate for national governments to make informed choices using data is unlike most other organizations I've ever worked for. At CHAI it isn't about taking the credit as an organization (which is refreshing), but instead letting the government build it's capacity and shine. If you are a self-starter and motivated this is a place for you. If you need lots of hand holding this is not a place you will excel or fit in. People here are driven to do better every day and are heavily committed to their jobs (working long hours and weekends at times). What team you are on will greatly determine your time at CHAI. Great health care and good 401K match.

    Kontras

Pay is not adequate, no real system in place for annual review which means people get promoted as people leave or if you want to switch countries/regions for new opportunities.

Ich habe in Vollzeit bei Clinton Health Access Initiative gearbeitet (Über 3 Jahre)

    Pros

Allows for out of the box thinking and problem solving.

    Kontras

    1. Nepotism is too much. promotions never based on performance but on who you know.
    2. Abuse of workers is rampant by senior management and junior staff hardly have anywhere to report to where action will be taken
    3. Country directors have absolute power like kings. depending on which country you are working in there might be varying degrees of opportunities for career growth, salary adjustments, promotions. refer to point 1.
    4. high staff turnover due to frustrations mainly. i have seen people leaving for lower salaries elsewhere just so they can have peace of mind.
    5. bad work life balance, expected to respond to emails 24 hours a day but do not provide resources outside the office to do so.
    6. claim that workers are most important asset but the treatment of staff is directly the opposite.
    7. it is easier to get a higher ranking job coming from outside CHAI than to be promoted from within unless you are prepared to bootlick/kissup

    Rat an das Management

Please ensure each country has senior leadership that comprise of technical and administrative leaders. Find a way to deal with tyrants in two of your countries that are the only ones operating without deputy country directors for over 4 year leaving one person to reign over people.

Ich habe in Vollzeit bei Clinton Health Access Initiative gearbeitet (Über 3 Jahre)

    Pros

Great people. Some are really driven by the opportunity to have an impact on Global Health

    Kontras

Good people are buried under a layer of major organization dysfunction. To start form the top: paranoia, dirty politics, scheming, backstabbing and yelling. At country level, regional and country director have been appointed thanks to the standard cronyism that is widespread. Weak systems to support teams, non-competitive remuneration and overall junior staff who try to reinvent the wheel. No institutional memory and strategy which jumps from one thing to the next on a whim. No performance management. High performers are not recognized. Poor performers are not dealt with appropriately, which is worrisome since many of them are in leadership positions (see cronies above). You only get fired for pissed somebody off, somebody that matters more than you that is.
My advice, look for opportunities to build your CV elsewhere.

    Rat an das Management

Get a new CEO. Come on, it is long overdue.
