Ich arbeite seit mehr als 3 Jahren bei Chevron (Vollzeit)

    Pros

Friendly co-workers, inclusive culture, good work/life balance, most people get every other Friday off. I have been treated well and have never been asked to work through nights or weekends. Overall the company is a well organized and well run machine.

    Kontras

Little career growth potential in the SF bay area, especially with low oil prices and recently announced lay offs (many jobs being relocated to Texas or overseas anyway, eventually HQ expected to go to Texas as well). Not a progressive culture; being a 100 year old oil company it is more interested in preserving the status quo than investing in alternative/renewable energy sources that we will eventually need to... convert to. HQ in San Ramon feels very sterile and quiet despite its size. Plenty of room and potential to make it a much more lively and compelling office campus. The company is extremely image conscious and pushes the espousal of safety to absurd limits, especially for an office environment that does not come with the same set of industrial dangers that a refinery or an exploration field would.

    Rat an das Management

Encourage employees to rotate and change jobs within the company more often. So many employees are life-long and have been there 20+ years that any change seems scary. Be more willing to formally train/re-educate people if they want to do something functionally different (beyond the reimbursement for the typical part-time MBA).

Ich habe für mehr als 8 Jahre bei Chevron gearbeitet (Vollzeit)

    Pros

Good safety environment and lot of good work

    Kontras

No growth / promotions for Asian women, especially if you have a White Caucasian male as your manager. He will sweet talk you and convince you to take the most challenging projects. When it comes to reward, he will find some trivial fault in your work ethics and stretch it so much, which makes an employee feel like they committed a major crime. Very pretentious and hypocrite when it comes to Diversity.

    Rat an das Management

Instead of always looking at 5-year and 10-year strategies, pay some close attention to the real workers of the IT (grade level 19-21)

Ich arbeite seit mehr als 10 Jahren bei Chevron (Vollzeit)

    Pros

There are a lot of wonderful people working at Chevron. The company offers good benefits. They also have a terrific 401K plan. There are lots of opportunities to learn and develop. It is very team oriented. Safety is a top management priority. The work life balance is good 99% of the time. I have made great friends there. The oil industry is an exciting place to work. I would definitely recommend it to a... friend.

Ich arbeite seit mehr als 5 Jahren bei Chevron (Vollzeit)

    Pros

    Good benefits and good pay.

    Kontras

Large number of bureaucratic management in place who are adverse to thinking outside the box, they just want to check the box and move on. Don't have an opinion unless you are a senior manager, manager that knows a lot of people or someone who is a top performer or you will get pigeon holed and you will have no career. The company (ITC) is NOT committed to its employees; going layoffs every 2-4 years and... outsourcing IT jobs.

    Rat an das Management

Stop protecting Upstream and hiding their mistakes (see Gorgon and Wheatstone) by laying off employees in the other OPCO's (ITC). Hold the people who made those decisions accountable!

Ich habe für mehr als 8 Jahre bei Chevron gearbeitet (Vollzeit)

    Pros

Great benefits and salaries. There is also opportunities to move around the company and work with different teams and do a variety of work.

    Kontras

Executive management of the IT function is horrible. Upper management views IT as a money pit, and continually cuts into the budget, sending as much work overseas as they can. Every couple of years the goal seems to be to cut 10%, and no one ever communicates to upper-level executives just how ineffective this strategy is. The remaining workers are expected to 'manage' overseas resources, but they end up just doing... the work themselves, since it's virtually impossible to get quality, timely work from overseas team members. Business unit customers complain to IT staff, but those complaints are never communicated higher up - or if they are, it doesn't appear that those complaints make a bit of difference.

Chevron can be a great place to work, but the constant movement of jobs overseas and overwork of your IT employees are taking its toll. I've seen how burned out and unhappy people are becoming, especially the ones that have worked for Chevron for a long time. If you care about that, but still want to continue squeezing every penny of profit you can from the company, spend less money on those ridiculous programs that... add little value - like fit breaks, all the diversity events (you're a global company - I never even saw a hint of non-inclusiveness anywhere I went in the company), health fairs, and on and on. What a waste. Giving employees an environment where they are not overworked and constantly worried about the next reorg will do wonders for their health, and won't cost a penny.

Ich habe weniger als ein Jahr bei Chevron als gearbeitet

    Pros

Chevron is a huge company that is doing well. The future of the company is in shale gas, so there's huge potential for growth, even for a company that is already huge. They have a lot of resources, therefore compensation is very good. They even have a pension program too. Interns were also allowed to contribute to a 401K but they never told us how to set that up. Best part about Chevron is their 9-80 program, so you... work 80 hours in 9 days, as opposed to 10 days, and you get every other Friday off.

    Kontras

Safety is very important to the Chevron culture, which they call it the Chevron Way. And it should be, especially out on the rigs and oil platforms, though it trickles into the office environment too. So for example, you are to anonymously report someone, at least once a month, if they are doing something unsafe, such as not holding the railings on the escalator. If you are typing too much on your computer, it will... lock up for 5 minutes and force you to take a break. While that is all great for ergonomic reason, it does present a Big Brother mentality. In addition, big oil is big oil. Any interests on renewable energy developments will label you as someone who's values and interests do not align with Chevron's. So if you are interested in renewables and corporate responsibility, just keep it to yourself.
