    Pros

Large stable European based company that looks long term not qtr. to qtr. in their analysis of investment / hiring decisions

    Kontras

Large German company that creates 2 procedures for every 1 it tries to reduce. Company mgmt. also at time manages in fear of an audit finding (even minor ones) , not making sure they do the right thing for company / employee.

    Pros

Great benefits, most people are willing to help you and work together

    Kontras

Slow growth opportunities, tough to get out of the shadow of German influence

    Rat an das Management

Continue to focus on globalization and expansion out of Germany

    Pros

    - work/life balance - great colleagues - training opportunities - job rotation

    Kontras

The culture has changed quite a bit in the last two years. information is rarely shared and German bosses treat the Asians at work as second class citizens. It's a German company and not a multinational company.

    Rat an das Management

Empower the employees and get rid of so many layers of "senior managers/team heads". Send Germans who are actually open to Asian culture to Asia. i worked with Germans who only speak to Germans - why come to Asia if you are afraid of interacting with the "locals".

Ich habe bei BASF gearbeitet ()

    Pros

Good consideration of work-life balance; company values innovation; compensation well in line with industry standards; opportunities for personal/professional development exist; international

    Kontras

Very bureaucratic, and very German. Can be difficult to advance without a solid knowledge of the language.

    Pros

Clear strategy and willingness to stick to that strategy. Big, global player that still treats its employees like family ("Aniliner"). Salary and beneifts for permanent employees are good.

    Kontras

If you are not German or do not speak the language, communicating with corporate HQ in Germany can be challenging. Also, very hierarchical decision making processes which hinder success in markets where flexibility is required. Internal job market is frozen below Vice President level.

    Rat an das Management

Learn from mistakes by other companies: stop with the Job Market idea in which new employees get less benefits and a temporary contract, as it breeds dissatisfaction amongst the ranks. Stop the idea that everything in Asia is cheaper and better, especially research and development. And please stop treating people on the talent list in a way that forces them to burn out before achieving anything, and stop the... nepotism towards them in favor of the other employees.

    Pros

The company is really big and you have the chance to travel a lot if you are lucky otherwise you can ask to move to a new location easily. There are many benefits and work-freetime balance is good.

    Kontras

It is so big that sometimes you feel lost. In my experience I did not get help from the german colleagues that have always been quite unpleasant. There is almost no program of employee development. Headquarters only care of revenues but

    Rat an das Management

Most of the employees don't even know what BASF produces, this is because the internet website is really bad and corporate communication is lousy. It's a real pity, so many employees could be a perfect means of external publicity and corporate culture would also benefit. In my experience I felt the GT too distant, if engineers of other plants could have access to online tools and data, surely costs and time of... designing could be decreased with an overall benefit for the company.

    Pros

Nice bragging rights to say you are working at the largest chemical company in the world. The company is is very strong financially. If you take initiative you can deal with other parts of the world.

    Kontras

Forget about a career unless you are German. The current trend is the promotion of German females. The nest best thing is an American with a German last name. The Company is totally inflexible in every regard and this extends even to customer engagements.

    Rat an das Management

Cannot run the Company today based old principles from the 1950's. Trouble is ahead unless change is made.

    Pros

International corporation with excellent benefits. Potential international travel if you have high enough position.

    Kontras

Total lack of executive diversity. Three reorgs in three years resulted in 14 executive positions staffed with 11 white, male Germans plus one white, male Canadian. Of the other two, one was white, female German. And this was at the new North American HQ for the Ag Biotech division. If you have dreams of advancing, don't spend them here.

    Rat an das Management

Get a clue when so many persons leave for competitors. Stop rewarding people by how many hurdles they put on advancing research projects in the name of corporate stewardship. Start breaking up the non-diverse executive logjam and think beyond 2015.

    Pros

It's a solid company, leader in his sector with an historical presence in many countries. International, challenging, you can learn a lot. Personal relations are generally positive.

    Kontras

Very structured and strongly centrally governed (German Headquarters). Few decisional authonomy left at local level. Few top positions outside Germany. Salary (out of Germany) are generally not high.

    Pros

Nice place to work overall. Great people, good cafeteria, stable, good long-term outlook, good salary and benefits. Beautiful area to live, close to mountains and coast. Generally nice weather.

    Kontras

Working globally can be a little difficult given the internal politics (e.g., it is a German-owned company and it can be difficult for non-German colleagues to rise to senior positions). It is also a very processed-driven company. Hard to do anything outside the defined process.
