    Pros

    Excellent training, good Pension, 35hr per week, nice people to work for, very supportive.

    Kontras

    Service Manager and DSM manager Salaries poor.

    Improve salaries for middle management and you may retain staff.

    Pros

    Supporting people affected by dementia to understand their diagnosis and live well with the condition. Work in the communities to raise awareness and remove the stigma.

    Kontras

    People have said they need services such as Dementia specific Advocacy, Community support workers, Home Support and Day Care which under the new strategy will all be closed. The new 5 year strategy is heavily dependant on volunteers which is very ambitious and unlikely to succeed as historically the volunteer base is really low and continually fluctuates. Centrally based staff making decisions on service delivery don't have front line experience and probably have never met someone with a diagnosis of dementia. If they have done, it's a complete revelation ! Remember Kitwood, 'If you've met one person with dementia, you've met one person with dementia......

    Pros

    Fantastic cause, exciting and ambitious vision, great office, inspirational volunteers, good level of pay, good extra-curricular social scene

    Kontras

    Sometimes change isn't handled very well, some people find it difficult to progress within the Society and have to find progression elsewhere, no performance related pay/pay bands

    Reduce brain drain and losing experienced staff members by encouraging them more to stay- many people get fed up and find fewer and fewer reasons to stay.

    Lazy line management that went under the radar for too long

    Better line management and an understanding of the importance of development and progression to enhance people's career's within the Society. Each time progression was attempted, it was always blocked and no real explanation given or opportunities to grow experience and knowledge to help with progression. Have chosen to leave the Society due to this reason, as there was no real pathway for Community Fundraiser's to progress into a management role

    Pros

    - people really care about the Society and put people affected by dementia at the heart of everything they do
     - high energy, creative and innovative
     - senior management are accessible and approachable
     - you know you are making a difference in changing the landscape of dementia forever
     - good benefits and supportive flexible working environment (different working patterns, hours, working from home etc)

    Kontras

    - sometimes overly ambitious and want to do it all - capacity and delivery can be an issue
     - decision making isn't always as clear as you might like
     - sometimes there is just too much going on at the same time and it makes it hard to constantly re-prioritise

    - keep listening to both employees and volunteers on how to do things even better and keep updated on progress made
    - the Society is full of people who go above and beyond, but capacity is an issue and people will tire eventually, so balance is key

    Pros

    Emotionally rewarding work overall and lovely people. Good training offered.

    Kontras

    HR are only interested in saving money and do not value individual employees. Low staff morale resulting in high turnover of staff.

    Actually value those people on the front-line and perhaps there wouldn't be such a constant turnover of staff.
