Ich arbeite in Vollzeit bei Alzheimer's Society (mehr als ein Jahr)

    Pros

Leading the charity sector thanks to it's innovation and ability to push boundaries
Large fundraising team with a wealth of experience

    Kontras

Lazy line management that went under the radar for too long

    Rat an das Management

Better line management and an understanding of the importance of development and progression to enhance people's career's within the Society. Each time progression was attempted, it was always blocked and no real explanation given or opportunities to grow experience and knowledge to help with progression. Have chosen to leave the Society due to this reason, as there was no real pathway for Community Fundraiser's to progress into a management role

    Pros

Genuine commitment to improving the lives of people with dementia.

    Collegiate and cooperative working culture.

Enthusiastic approach to equality and diversity in its workforce.

    Kontras

    Head office over capacity.

Can struggle with coordination of activities when embarking upon projects without formally assigning a project manager.

    Rat an das Management

Strengthen the project management team and associated project initiation processes.

Ich arbeite in Vollzeit bei Alzheimer's Society

    Pros

    - people really care about the Society and put people affected by dementia at the heart of everything they do
     - high energy, creative and innovative
     - senior management are accessible and approachable
     - you know you are making a difference in changing the landscape of dementia forever
     - good benefits and supportive flexible working environment (different working patterns, hours, working from home etc)

    Kontras

    - sometimes overly ambitious and want to do it all - capacity and delivery can be an issue
     - decision making isn't always as clear as you might like
     - sometimes there is just too much going on at the same time and it makes it hard to constantly re-prioritise

    Rat an das Management

    - keep listening to both employees and volunteers on how to do things even better and keep updated on progress made
    - the Society is full of people who go above and beyond, but capacity is an issue and people will tire eventually, so balance is key

Ich arbeite in Teilzeit bei Alzheimer's Society (Über 3 Jahre)

    Pros

Emotionally rewarding work overall and lovely people. Good training offered.

    Kontras

HR are only interested in saving money and do not value individual employees. Low staff morale resulting in high turnover of staff.

    Rat an das Management

Actually value those people on the front-line and perhaps there wouldn't be such a constant turnover of staff.

    Pros

Colleagues are great and they have a vision and strive to get there.

    Kontras

Expectations are often OTT and often not achievable in their timelines.

    Rat an das Management

    Communication can be vastly improved.

    Negativ Geschäftsführer

Ich habe in Vollzeit bei Alzheimer's Society gearbeitet

    Pros

The front line staff are fantastic with a real passion for the cause.

    Kontras

HR support is inconsistent and a total lack of equity across the organisation's directorates in terms of following policy. Policies are not fit for purpose and too open for interpretation

Senior leadership team are disengaged from frontline and making huge decision without really engagement with frontline staff and most importantly service users. Constant feedback from employment surveys show that people are unhappy with heir leadership but nothing has changed. People are scared to challenge and general feeling of no faith in their leadership. Shambolic

Overambitious strategy with a focus on numbers rather than outcomes for people affected by dementia. Lost their way in focussing on what is important

Communication is dire and change is managed appallingly quite often down to lack of understanding as to how services actually work

Expectations of management are very high and unrealistic and managers are undervalued
Value sand behaviours are good. It's a shame those in more senior roles don't adhere to them
    Toxic culture

    Rat an das Management

    Improve communication vastly
    Be consistent
Senior leadership team need to be more viable on frontline and seek guidance form those who actually know services and what service users wants. A tokenism of user involvement exercise is meaningless
Listen to feedback from surveys and act on it!

Ich habe in Teilzeit bei Alzheimer's Society gearbeitet (mehr als ein Jahr)

    Pros

    supportive, helpful team and manager

    Kontras

short term contracts, sometimes extended but too late (already got another job), lots of part time (yes good) jobs but poorly paid (can't manage on salary), irony that well paid jobs aren't offered as job share/ part time, losing good staff constantly because of pay/short contracts, have subsequently heard that 2 others from team have left and they have a new manager who is struggling - years of really good work about to disintegrate and come to nothing

    Rat an das Management

review contract lengths/pay, support managers better, make more well paid jobs available part time

Ich arbeite in Vollzeit bei Alzheimer's Society (mehr als ein Jahr)

    Pros

    Dedicated and passionate staff.
Flexible working - manage own hours, work from home when necessary.
Managers understand balance of work & home life - eg working around school runs and sick children.
    Toil given for overtime.
Excellent, high standard of training and plenty of opportunity for training and development.
Society promotes career progression among staff.
    Pension and health benefits.

    Kontras

Managers are low paid therefore poor or inexperienced managers are a problem. Good managers leave for higher paid jobs.
Pay lower than other positions in similar charities (eg Marie Curie).
Lack of understanding & support from managers due to them often being based in different locations to staff.
Some of the office bases are in very poor conditions whilst others are much nicer.
Staff expected to achieve the impossible - given unachievable targets with unacceptably low budgets, making failure inevitable.
Lots of time wasted on badly managed and planned team meetings.

    Rat an das Management

Provide proper, comprehensive and worthwhile supervision to support your staff and make them feel that they matter.
Plan team meetings to make the most of them.
