    Pros

    Brilliant environment full of people who really care about hearing loss and disabled people's rights, as well as being passionate about their jobs. Everyone in the team is very intelligent and hard working and the team are lovely and supportive. Really enjoyed working here and would recommend it to anyone.

    Pros

    Good teams, people really care about the cause, a lot of great opportunities to get out to the Services and meet the people we support.

    Kontras

    Management don't care about staff, high turnover, money is wasted on temp agency staff, knowledge is often lost due by not caring for long term workers (10 years and up). CEO doesn't listen to anyone, not even staff council, and some of the EG never learn from their mistakes.

    Pros

    Fantastic cause and really great people to work with

    Kontras

    The organisation isn't well known so doesn't bring in enough income to support some great activities and campaigns.

    Not enough deaf staff are recruited to bring in expertise and understanding.

    Staff here are some of the friendliest I've worked with
    There's plenty of work to do, you'll never be bored

    Kontras

    Money is wasted at best, and ransacked to be spent on benefits for management at worst
    There is a very hierarchical structure, those at the bottom have no autonomy, no authority, and no opportunity for progression
    Many managers bully and overwork staff, and ignore their needs
    Staff with disabilities (including hearing loss) are not supported
    There is a kleptoctratic culture among the senior staff
    Senior management have complete impunity and cannot be held to account for bad decision making
    Senior management make decisions only to benefit themselves and further their careers at the expense of the organisation
    Staff are regularly disciplined on spurious grounds, purely to intimidate them
    Poor work/life balance, you're expected to work endless extra hours for free
    Pay is frozen whilst senior staff members get large pay rises and regular expenses-paid travel abroad

    Pros

    Staff teams can be great, and in general are really caring/ creative about supporting people. Lots of training and refresher courses provided throughout.

    Kontras

    Dedication and attitudes of staff teams can vary massively between different services, and according to how well they are managed. These services also do not always have a lot to do with each other, therefore not much joined up thinking takes place. Some teams very understaffed and overstretched. Pay is very low and support staff are not made to feel valued for what they do. Leading to high staff turnover and inconsistency for the people who use the services.

    Service users and fellow staff are great

    Kontras

    Shocking higher management. Dont give a damn about the staff or service users as long as they make money.
    No 1-1 care given to the people who matter..the service users, just paperwork, paperwork, paperwork

    Everyone is very friendly, helpful and approachable at all levels. 25 days holiday, scarily good sickness policy (sadly may invite some to take advantage). Working for a great cause

    Poor communication between departments. Lack of awareness of what needs to change internally for things to improve.

    Pros

    I worked in one of the best teams at AoHL. I understand every directorate is different so others may have had difference experiences but I had one of the best working experience - flexible working, supportive team members and leaders, great work-life balance.

    Different directorates/teams dont always talk to each other leading to last minute requests.
